The Location: 250 6th Aveue S.W Calgary, AB
The Goal: Renovation of various floors over different phases for Tourmaline Oil Corporation. The project consisted of (3) projects/phases as outlined above.
The Project: The first project was a full renovation of the 29th floor executive level including offices, meeting rooms, reception complete with custom reception desk, kitchen complete with solid surface and metal accents, server rooms, and copy/printer rooms. The 2nd project consisted of minor renovations to occupied areas to rework existing offices and open workstations to accommodate their current needs. The 3rd project consisted of a phased renovation to the occupied 36th floor to upgrade their current finishes as well as a full renovation to the 37th floor elevator lobby and boardroom. We worked closely with the client’s office manager and consultants to establish a phasing plan for the 36th floor renovation.
The original 29th floor project was a fixed fee tender project; we were engaged for the remainder of the work on a construction management agreement and worked closely with the designers during the design development and pre-constitution.
The main challenges with these projects were the multiple projects and phases as well as working in occupied areas. We were required to work closely with the client’s office manager on a phasing plan to ensure their office staff was provided appropriate notice for the phases to accommodate remote working requirements. There were also specific challenges to working within occupied spaces during the pandemic and were required to pivot to after hours in some of the areas due to particular needs and comfort of particular office staff.
